PHOENIX – Wednesday is the last recommended day for mailing early ballots for next week’s election, but it’s not the last chance for Phoenix-area residents to participate in early voting.
“If you’ve got that green envelope you’ve got to get it in the mail by tomorrow,” Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Tuesday.
“Halloween, Oct. 31, is your last day to mail in those early ballots.”
Ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 6, in order to be counted, regardless of the postmark.
Starting Wednesday, dozens of voting centers will be open throughout the Phoenix area until Friday, with select sites also being available Saturday and Monday.
Voters can either drop off their early ballots or vote in person at the centers, which are available for anybody who has registered regardless of address.
But Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery stressed that voters have to turn in their ballots themselves, or they can give them to a family member, a household member and a caregiver. Giving your ballot to anyone else to turn in is a felony, he added.
“The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office is committed to protecting the voting process and will enforce this law,” he said during a Wednesday press conference.
For those who will go visit any of the 40 voting centers between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Election Day to turn in their early voting ballot, Montgomery said they don’t have to wait in line.
Visit the county’s website for the voting centers’ locations and hours.
You can follow the status of your early ballot by texting “Join” to 628-683. Notifications will be sent when ballots received, verified and sent to be counted.
