PHOENIX – Authorities were investigating a fatal collision on Interstate 17 in north Phoenix on Friday afternoon.
A 2012 Nissan Altima left a private drive and was merging onto the southbound frontage road when it collided with a 2006 Volkswagen Passat south of Thunderbird Road, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Both vehicles rolled over and went through a chain-link fence.
A passenger in the Volkswagen, Megan Kay Paulson, 22, was ejected from her car and pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers were not injured.
The southbound access road from Thunderbird to Cactus Road was closed for most of the afternoon commute, and the main freeway was restricted to two lanes in that stretch.
