PHOENIX — A man was arrested for breaking into the Mesa Police Department headquarters Wednesday after he was found sleeping in the space above the second-floor ceiling.

Jesus Ramon Carrillo Levya, 51, was discovered around 1:45 p.m., according to the booking report.

Earlier in the day, the building near Main Street and Country Club Drive had been evacuated because there were signs of a break-in.

“One of our employees noticed ceiling dust when they returned to their desk,” Det. Steven Berry told KTAR News 92.3 FM. “We called for our officers to check that area and they actually located the suspect sleeping in the ceiling of that particular room.”

Staff members noticed some items out of place when they arrived for work at about 6:45 a.m., Berry said.

They then found a broken window and fragments of glass inside the office.

The department’s headquarters was cleared around 10 a.m. so Mesa SWAT could search the building.

Levya told detectives he had been using illegal drugs and that he “used methamphetamines daily,” according to the booking report.

He had been booked and released at the Mesa jail at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning on an unrelated incident.

He used an extension ladder to climb to the third story of the headquarters and break in.

“I was like Spiderman,” he said, according to the booking report.

Levya was charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespassing of a public service facility and criminal damage and defacement.
