PHOENIX — The unrelenting rain storms in the Phoenix area over the weekend claimed at least one life after a weeks-old child was pronounced dead following a car accident on a Valley freeway.

Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves said the crash occurred around noon Saturday along the Loop 101 near Northern Avenue.

The crash involved two vehicles, a Honda sedan and a Chevrolet Silverado.

Graves said the Honda driven by Christopher Mur struck the Silverado, which was stopped in the HOV lane after being involved in an earlier collision during a heavy downpour.

Graves said Mur, an adult passenger and the baby were taken to a local hospital.

The infant, Mur’s daughter, was pronounced dead around 11 p.m. on Sunday. The adults’ injuries were described as serious but not life threatening.

The driver of the Silverado was treated in a hospital and released.

A GoFundMe page identified the victim as Virginia Mur. The page said she was almost 3 weeks old at the time of her death.

The page was asking for donations for Virginia’s parents, Chris and Morgan Mur, for “medical expenses, funeral arrangements for their beautiful angel and a new car so when Christopher is healed and ready, he can return to work.”

It had raised more than $4,000 of its $10,000 goal by Tuesday afternoon.
