Rain returns to the Valley adding to record monthly rainfall

PHOENIX — The remnants of Tropical Storm Sergio have made their way to Phoenix dampening roads and initiating flood warnings throughout the Valley.

A Flash Flood Watch was initiated in central Arizona throughout the evening as the storm raged on through the morning and into the afternoon.

Thunderstorms were expected to continue into the night with isolated storms expected until 10:00 p.m.

The National Weather Service Phoenix tweeted that with the downpour, Oct. 2018 became the wettest October ever in Phoenix. The 5.32 inches of rainfall this month rank as the fourth wettest month of all time.

As of 4:11 p.m., the East Valley had gotten hit the hardest with the rain with totals as high as 1.50 inches in Apache Junction and 1.73 inches in Mesa.

Less than two weeks ago, remnants of Tropical Depression Rosa dropped a record-setting 2.36 inches of rain in Phoenix.
