PHOENIX — President Donald Trump will not be making an appearance in Phoenix this month, despite earlier rumors that might have speculated otherwise.

According to court documents filed Thursday in a dispute between the city and a local chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, the city said Trump will not be appearing in Phoenix in September.

“The city of Phoenix has confirmed that President Trump will not be appearing in Phoenix in September 2018. No appearance by the president in Phoenix is currently scheduled,” the court documents read.

A source within the Phoenix Police Department confirmed the news to KTAR News 92.3 FM.

It was not immediately known whether the president will try to visit other Arizona cities this month. KAFF News in northern Arizona reported that Trump was rumored to visit Flagstaff and Prescott Valley later this month.

The news came amid a back-and-forth legal battle between the Arizona chapter of the ACLU and the city.

The ACLU first filed a class-action lawsuit against the city and its police department earlier this month for shutting down protests against President Donald Trump last year. The lawsuit argued that protesters had been exercising their constitutional rights throughout the day and posed no threat when they were confronted by Phoenix police.

As rumors of a potential Trump visit swirled and a Phoenix venue confirmed that his people asked about using the space for a campaign rally, the ACLU filed a motion to get a temporary restraining order against Phoenix police. They argued that it would prohibit police from violating protesters’ rights to assemble and protest.

Attorneys for the city of Phoenix filed Thursday’s notice in response to that motion and requested that the ACLU withdraw its request for a restraining order since Trump will not be appearing.
