Premature baby delivered in Arizona after mother was shot in head
Authorities said doctors in Casa Grande successfully delivered a premature baby Tuesday after the mother was shot in the head, allegedly by her boyfriend.

PHOENIX – Authorities said doctors in Casa Grande successfully delivered a premature baby Tuesday after the mother was shot in the head, allegedly by her boyfriend.
According to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responding to a burglary call found the 30-year-old victim, who was seven months pregnant, in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head.
She was airlifted to a local hospital, where she was placed in a medically induced coma. The baby was delivered two months early and was in stable condition.
While deputies were at the house in the area of Pinal Avenue and McCartney Road, the victim’s boyfriend drove up in her car with what appeared to be blood on him.
Javier Figueroa, 23, indicated to deputies that the shooting was an accident. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and misconduct involving weapons.
The investigation is ongoing.
