PHOENIX — Interstate 10 westbound in west Phoenix was reopened after being closed for almost an hour Tuesday morning for police activity.
All lanes between 43rd and 51st avenues had been closed because of a person in danger on a freeway overpass, authorities said.
The Phoenix Police Department said officers were attempting to contact the person on the 51st Avenue bridge.
The closure was announced around 9:30 a.m. and lifted around 10:20 a.m.
The Arizona Department of Transportation said to expect long delays in the area.

During the closure, all westbound traffic had to exit I-10 at 43rd Avenue, and the 35th Avenue on-ramp also was closed.
Westbound traffic on I-10 was backed up beyond Interstate 17 when the freeway reopened.
McDowell Road and Van Buren Street were the closest alternative routes.
