3 Tempe schools briefly placed on modified lockdown

PHOENIX – Three schools in Tempe were briefly placed in modified lockdown Friday afternoon while police searched for a suspected car thief.

Police said access was restricted at Marcos de Niza High School, Fees Middle School and Rover Elementary School as a precaution. The schools are within a few blocks of one another.

In an email, police said that the driver ran away from the scene near McClintock and Southshore drives.

The lockdown was lifted shortly after 1 p.m., lasting less than an hour. Students resumed normal activities, including lunch break.

Roads were not closed.

No other details were immediately available.
