PHOENIX — Former Phoenix Sun Tom Chambers was allegedly involved in a physical incident earlier this year in Scottsdale.

Chambers, who played as a power forward with the team from 1988 to 1993, allegedly “got physical with a trash-talking 22-year-old” at Isabella’s Kitchen in Scottsdale on April 15.

The 22-year-old, identified by TMZ as Alexander Bergelt, was allegedly mocking Chambers’ looks and used profane language toward him.

Chambers, according to TMZ, told police that the final straw came when Bergelt said, “Your mom should have killed you when you came out of the womb as ugly as you are.”

Chambers allegedly admitted to putting his hands on Bergelt but said he never punched him.

But Bergelt told police that Chambers reportedly “came at him from across the bar, grabbed him by the throat and threw him backwards.”

The publication reported that Bergelt “had a mark on his neck and a bruise on his lip.”

Sgt. Ben Hoster with the Scottsdale Police Department told KTAR News 92.3 FM in an email that Chambers is the defendant in a pending case in Scottsdale City Court, but he was never physically arrested.

He said the case stemmed from an “incident that occurred at a north Scottsdale restaurant in April of this year,” but did not provide more details about the incident.

Hoster said the case was submitted to the city prosecutor’s office for review and charges.

Chambers was charged with assault and Bergelt was charged with disorderly conduct.

If the allegations are true, it would not be Chambers’ first time getting in trouble with the law: He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence in 2013.

Chambers made three All-Star appearances as a Phoenix Sun. He retired as a Philadelphia 76er at the end of the 1997–98 regular season.

He is currently in his 13th season as host of the Suns’ pregame, halftime and postgame shows on FOX Sports Arizona.
