PHOENIX — The Federal Bureau of Investigation was investigating after a suspect was shot and killed by members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force in Maricopa County on Monday.
Deputy U.S. Marshal Amelia Swenhaugen said in an email that the officer-involved shooting occurred at the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community around 10 a.m.
Swenhaugen said members of the task force were attempting to arrest the suspect, who was later identified as 42-year-old Pedro Lucero from New Mexico, when he tried to flee.
The shooting occurred during the course of the arrest, she added.
Lucero was shot and killed by members of the task force, according to U.S. Marshal David Gonzales.
No officers were injured.
Swenhaugen did not provide any more details regarding the shooting. An investigation was ongoing.
