Suspect, victim identified in fatal shooting at Fountain Hills hotel

PHOENIX — A woman was in custody after she allegedly shot and killed her ex-husband at a hotel in Fountain Hills, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Sgt. Bryant Vanegas said Jeannette Kimmel, 27, was detained after the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call of a shooting at the Cornerstone Plaza Hotel in Fountain Hills.

The victim in the shooting was later identified as 36-year-old John Kimmel, Jeannette Kimmel’s ex-husband, Vanegas said.

The call for the shooting came in shortly before midnight on Friday.

Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez, a spokesman for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, said authorities quickly determined that the two-person dispute was a domestic violence incident.

“This isn’t one of those just random acts of violence,” Enriquez said. “We do have every person involved, either detained or obviously being questioned about what exactly went on.”

The shooting is being investigated as a domestic violence incident.
