PHOENIX — Could the Valley see rainstorms this weekend after recording record-high temperatures for three days in a row? One weather expert believes so.
Larry Hopper, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, told KTAR News 92.3 FM that the Phoenix area could see rainstorms move through the Valley as early as Friday and continue through the weekend.
“We should have some isolated, scattered thunderstorms mainly north and east of the Phoenix metro today,” Hopper said, adding that there is a better chance for more storms on Saturday.
“Each day moving forward, depending on how active the previous day was, there will be a 10 to 20 percent of showers and thunderstorms in Phoenix,” he said.

The news of possible rainstorms should be a relief to Phoenix area residents: The area recorded the year’s hottest temperatures on Tuesday, as the mercury reached 116 degrees.
Temperatures were not much better during the rest of the week: Monday and Wednesday also broke daily heat records, according to the National Weather Service.
Hopper said the weekend should see a gradual cool down, with a forecasted high of 109 degrees on Friday, 107 degrees on Saturday and 105 degrees on Sunday.
Hopper said temperatures were not expected to top 109 degrees for the next seven days.
