Popular Valley sandwich shop to open second location in Phoenix

PHOENIX — A popular sandwich shop in Central Phoenix announced its plans to expand and open another Valley location.

According to the Phoenix Business Journal, Carole Meyer, the owner and founder of Zookz Sandwiches, has announced her plans to open another location in downtown Phoenix in the middle of July.

Meyer opened her first Zookz location in front of the Landmark Towers near Central Avenue and Camelback Road in 2012, but decided to move to Uptown Plaza just north of the original location two years ago.

Now, Meyer plans to open a second Zookz location in the ground floor of an office building located near First and Washington Streets.

Zookz will be in the same building as other popular establishments, such as Cartel Coffee Lab and Kaleidoscope Juice. But according to the Journal, Zookz will have an entrance from both Washington and First streets.

“I just like the energy down here,” Meyer told the Journal. “It will be a lot busier [than the Uptown Plaza location], but for a shorter period of time.”

Unsure of the type of clientele and demand in downtown Phoenix, Meyer told the Journal she plans for the new location to be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, but will adjust the hours of operation if needed.

Zookz is famous for using a circular grill press that Meyer built and patented on her own, according to the Journal. The unique style along with several ingredients is what makes Zookz stand out to customers.

Meyer explained that she plans on opening additional locations around the Valley in the future, but did not provide the Journal with exact locations.
