PHOENIX — Officials were investigating the death of a baby girl who stopped breathing for unknown reasons at an East Valley motel Tuesday.

At around 11:30 a.m., police said they received a 911 call from the girl’s mother, who was frantic because the 6-month-old wasn’t breathing.

Police and fire personnel rendered aid after responding to the scene at InTown Suites near Guadalupe Road and Arizona Avenue in Gilbert.

The baby was transported to a hospital but did not survive.

Gilbert detectives were working to determine what led to the child’s death.

No other information was made available.
