PHOENIX — A toddler died Monday morning shortly after being found unresponsive in a Phoenix-area swimming pool, authorities said.
The 4-year-old, who was not identified, was pulled from a pool at his babysitter’s house near 91st and Peoria avenues in Peoria, Arizona.
Authorities said the pool was fenced off. The preliminary investigation showed that the child may have used a chair to exit the home and an additional chair to open the pool gate.
No arrests have been made, and Peoria detectives will determine if charges are warranted.
It was one of at least three drowning-related incidents reported in the Phoenix area over Memorial Day weekend.
A 21-year-old female was unconscious after reportedly being found in a pool on Saturday, Capt. Jake Van Hook of the Phoenix Fire Department said.
The woman was later taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition. It was unclear how she ended up in the pool. An investigation was ongoing.
A 50-year-old female was found not breathing in a Phoenix pool on Sunday, Van Hook said. She was eventually able to regain her breath.
