Inmates, staff member injured after riot breaks out at Eloy prison

PHOENIX — Twelve inmates and one staff member were injured after a riot broke out at a prison in southern Arizona on Sunday, officials said.
The Eloy Police Department first reported that the riot at the Red Rock Correctional Facility had broke out around 2 p.m. The riot first broke out around 8:30 a.m.
The department said in a Facebook post that there had been “inmate in inmate assaults and inmate on staff assaults” and that police were on the scene for a time to maintain security and help treat the injured.
The inmates were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening emergencies, while a staff member with CoreCivic, the company that runs the facility, was treated and released from a hospital after suffering minor injuries.
As of 4:30 p.m., the jail has been secured and all inmates and staff have been accounted for, according to CoreCivic spokesman Jonathan Burns.
CoreCivic, the Arizona Department of Corrections and local law enforcement officials are investigating the situation.
