Robot skiing will probably not be an event at the Olympics anytime soon

Robot skiing may become an event at the Winter Olympics, but a new video shows that the technology is not there quite yet.

Apparently, people decided robots need to learn to ski.

A new video showed multiple robots competing in a downhill slalom-type ski event. Or at least attempting to.

Most of the robots fall over or crash into obstacles before reaching the finish line. One barely made it off the launching pad before taking a tumble while another one goes barreling into a fence near a group of spectators.

According to the Verge, eight robotics teams from universities and private companies competed in the event that took place at a resort only a few hours away from the 2018 Winter Olympics.

The winner, MiniRobot Corp., received $10,000 for building a 30-inch robot that made it down an 80-meter slope in less than 20 seconds.

If the event wasn’t creepy enough already, most teams decided to dress their robots in ski gear. Something about watching a robot attempt to do human things, while dressed in human clothing, is very uncomfortable.

On the bright side, it doesn’t look like robots are ready to take over the world just yet.
