PHOENIX — The sun has been working a little overtime in metro Phoenix, but will really go into weather overdrive with temperatures climbing to the mid-80s next week.

The weekend weather will be mild — about 70 degrees Friday and 75 on Saturday, but the National Weather Service predicted the mercury would reach 84 degrees Monday, and the rest of the week would hover in the low 80s.

Those numbers are nearly 15 degrees higher than average.

“Right now for January, we will probably be in the top three [warmest on record],” Chris Kuhlman, with the weather service’s Phoenix bureau, said.

And there’s no rain in the forecast for at least 10 days, he added.

It’s been a warm winter all around the state.

Snow hasn’t been its usual persistent visitor to Flagstaff. The area has collected 11 inches of snow from two storms.

“Typically, by this time of year we’d have around 47 inches of snow. At this time last year we were looking at 64 inches of snowfalls,” weather service meteorologist Robert Rickey in Flagstaff said.

No snow was expected in the coming week, either.

“We are looking for above-normal temperatures for the weekend and into early next week,” Rickey said.
