PHOENIX — The calendars of music fans in the Phoenix area have been filling up this week and yet another big name announced a show Thursday: Legendary Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd is coming this spring.

The band was slated to play Ak-Chin Pavilion near 83rd Avenue and McDowell Road on May 18 as part of its Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour.

Tickets will be available through several presales that were scheduled to begin Tuesday. The remainder will be made available to the general public on Feb. 2.

Prices started at $29.50 and topped out at $199.50, but that did not includes taxes or fees.

But fans won’t just see Lynyrd Skynyrd. A slew of other artists — Kid Rock, Hank Williams Jr., Bad Company, the Marshall Tucker Band and 38 Special — will also be touring with the band. There was no word which acts would play in Phoenix

Formed in Jacksonville, Florida, the band behind hits “Free Bird,” “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Simple Man,” was struck by tragedy. A plane crash in 1977 killed lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, backup singer Cassie Gaines and several members of the road crew.

The lineup now includes Gary Rossington and Johnny Van Zant, Ronnie’s brother.

So far this week, the Foo Fighters and the Doobie Brothers, along with the legendary Beach Boys and country-singing Phoenix native Dierks Bentley, all announced upcoming concerts in the Valley.
