PHOENIX — An East Valley restaurant is getting some serious praise from a website used to guide people to some of the best goods and services in their area.

Yelp picked San Tan Valley’s Lola Empanada as its restaurant of choice for people who visit the state of Arizona. The eatery was one of 51 “best, new” restaurants in the country to grab a bite in the New Year.

The restaurant, located near Skyline Drive and Camino Largo, serves a combination of Dominican, Puerto Rican and Cuban cuisine in a popular spot which opened in April.

The menu features a Criolla, an Argentine empanada with slowly-cooked premium ground beef and a Humita, an empanada with shredded beef, mozzarella cheese and sauteed onions, according to its Facebook page.

Here are a few of the Yelp reviews:

A pearl in the desert is this place! The food is out of this world!! Light flaky empanadas are to die for!!…Well worth going out of your way for. — Yelper David F.

The outside of these empanadas are so flaky and crispy. Lots of meat on the inside flavors were on point….Great service, friendly, fast, clean. Will definitely come back. — Yelper Tina N.
