PHOENIX — What would the Valley look like if a dinosaur was on the loose? This Arizona museum wants to find out.

The Arizona Museum of Natural History is asking the public to donate funds in an effort to set a giant dinosaur free in the Phoenix area — figuratively, not literally.

The museum is looking to create a life-size sculpture of an Acrocanthosaurus, an apex predator, that would be placed on the facility’s outside wall to make it appear like it was “breaking” out of the facility.

The fundraiser, which is called “Free the Dinosaur,” seeks to raise $150,000 to create the sculpture. The dinosaur will “dramatically [blast]” out of the upper levels of the exterior wall of the museum.

The museum will seek the help of the Dimensional Innovations of Kansas City, Kansas, a “premier designer and manufacturers of dinosaurs in public places,” to create the animal to full-scale proportions and pose.

The dinosaur will be one of the few sculptures in the world posed this way, the museum said, adding that its size and virtuosity will “immediately become an iconic sculpture in Arizona and nationally.”

According to the museum, Acrocanthosaurus dinosaurs roamed North America about 120 million years ago and “[struck] fear in all animals it encountered. In real life, the dinosaur weighed well over six tons and stood 38 feet long, nose to tail.”

Anyone who is looking to donate to the cause and help “free the dinosaur” can do so on the Arizona Museum of Natural History’s website.

Oh, and if you were wondering what it would be like if a real dino was on the loose in the Valley, it would be something like this:
