PHOENIX — Valley motorists should be singing some happy tunes this week.
But all the harmonizing shouldn’t be because the holiday shopping is finished or because all the Christmas lights are up.
Motorists should be joyous because gas prices have fallen 1.1 cents a gallon across the state of Arizona to begin the month of December.
Experts expect the trend to continue throughout the month.
According to an AAA Arizona press release, statewide prices dipped to $2.394 per gallon, below the national average.
“This year, the typical factors that drive gas prices down in winter were outweighed by the impact of two major hurricanes, steady consumer demand and continued growth in gasoline exports,” said Michelle Donati, a spokesperson for AAA Arizona.
Donati said Arizona’s year-to-date fuel average price is $2.28 per gallon.
In the Phoenix metro area, East Valley residents have access to the cheapest gas — $2.32 per gallon, according to the latest numbers.
Glendale and Peoria have the second-best gas prices this month with prices of $2.34 and $2.37 per gallon. Motorists who buy their gas in Scottsdale can expect to pay more — about five cents per gallon above the state’s current average.
Tucson has the cheapest gas in the state at $2.30 per gallon while Flagstaff is the most expensive at $2.62 per gallon.
