Halal Guys will bring its Middle Eastern cuisine to Phoenix

PHOENIX– Ahwatukee is about to get a taste of some popular Middle Eastern cuisine.

Next month, the Halal Guys will open a new location near 48th Street and Ray Road, according to its Facebook page.

The Halal Guys said the Ahwatukee restaurant will be located next to Target and Big Five Sporting Goods. The company plans to open Saturday, Dec. 9.

The Middle Eastern restaurant gained popularity when it expanded to the Tempe area near Apache Boulevard and Rural Road a few years ago. The restaurant features gyros and falafels for its main dishes and hummus and baba ganouj for its sides.

In 1990, the chain started from a single hot dog cart in New York City where the food became popular with Muslim taxicab drivers and New Yorkers alike.

Since then, the franchise has expanded nationwide with locations in California, Las Vegas and Austin, Texas. Internationally, the restaurant has locations in  Canada, Indonesia and the Philippines.
