Elderly Scottsdale woman forced into car trunk escapes after several hours

PHOENIX — An elderly woman who was forced from her home and locked in the trunk of her car managed to escape after the car was abandoned in a Scottsdale shopping mall.

Police said the unidentified 94-year-old freed herself Tuesday once the car was parked at Scottsdale Fashion Square, near 68th Street and Camelback Road, about seven hours after the ordeal began.

She told authorities a man in his 30s broke into her home early in the morning. He then tied her up and shoved her into the trunk of her car.

The woman was taken to a hospital for observation.

Sgt. Ben Hoster would not say whether the woman suffered any injuries.

Police were still searching for the suspect, a clean-cut while male in his mid-30s.
