PHOENIX — Monday is nacho not your average day, people. It’s National Nacho Day!

To help you celebrate — and to avoid cooking dinner because, come on, it’s Monday — we hopped over to review site Yelp and found the 10 best places to get nachos in the Valley.

We know you can get a combination of chips and cheese pretty much anywhere in the Phoenix area, but the places in the slideshow below have gotten the nod from a lot of reviewers.

And here’s a little nacho tidbit you can talk about while you dip a beautiful, cheese-smothered chip in salsa: The popular dish was supposedly first created in 1943 by Ignacio “Nacho” Anaya in northern Mexico.

Women whose husbands were stationed at a nearby U.S. military base were out shopping and stopped by Anaya’s restaurant, hoping to get a snack.

Anaya said he would make the women a snack out of what he had in the back. He melted cheese on top of tortilla chips and added some sliced jalapenos for good measure.

Boom. The nacho was born.

And it spread. By 1950, the simple recipe was popping up in cookbooks on both sides of the border and the dish rose to national fame when it was served — and subsequently mentioned on-air — during a 1978 “Monday Night Football” game.

So when you dive into your heaping pile of nachos on Monday, raise a chip to Anaya, the original nacho.
