PHOENIX — A Phoenix-area highway is expected to be closed overnight during the weekend of Nov. 3 to allow for construction of a freeway interchange, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The westbound Interstate 10 will be closed at 59th Avenue from 10 p.m. on Friday to noon on Saturday so crews can construct a bridge at the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange.

Crews will use this time to pour concrete on a straddle bent structure above I-10 that will support a flyover bridge, the department announced.

Westbound traffic on the freeway will be able to exit the freeway at the 59th Avenue off-ramp and re-enter at the 59th Avenue on-ramp, but drivers should expect some delays.

The same portion of the freeway will also be closed overnight from 9 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday nights next week.

Drivers are encouraged to take alternative routes during these periods, such as taking the Loop 101 west of Interstate 17.

But that isn’t the only Phoenix-area freeway that is expected to be closed or narrowed during the weekend of Oct. 3.

The northbound I-17 will be narrowed to two lanes near Dunlap Avenue from 9 p.m. on Friday to 9 a.m. on Saturday for the installation of a wrong-way vehicle detection system.

The I-17 off-ramps at Greenway Road in both directions and the northbound I-17 off-ramps at Bethany Home Road and Union Hills Drive will be closed from 9 p.m. on Saturday to 9 a.m. on Sunday for the installation of a wrong-way vehicle detection system.

The I-17 off-ramps at Cactus Road in both directions and the northbound I-17 off-ramp at Utopia Road will be closed from 9 p.m. on Sunday to 5 a.m. on Monday as well.

The northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane overnight between Jefferson Street and Indian School Road from 10 p.m. on Sunday to 5 a.m. on Monday for overhead sign work.

The northbound I-17 will also be narrowed to one lane overnight in areas between Indian School Road and Loop 101 in north Phoenix from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights for sign installation.

The northbound I-17 off-ramp at 19th Avenue will be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday for a Southwest Gas pipeline project. Southbound 19th Avenue will also be closed between the I-17 interchange and Hilton Avenue.

The north- and southbound I-17 frontage roads will be closed between Buckeye Road and Grant Street from 9 p.m. on Saturday to 3 p.m. on Sunday for APS and Cox Communications utility work.
