Arizona’s first sea lion born at West Valley zoo
The Wildlife World Zoo Aquarium & Safari Park welcomed the state's first baby sea lion to its family and visitors can now get a first-hand look at the pup.
PHOENIX — Marine mammal lovers in the Valley are in for a treat this fall: The Wildlife World Zoo Aquarium and Safari Park welcomed the state’s first baby sea lion to its family and visitors can now get a first-hand look at the pup.
The new sea lion, named Sunny, was born several weeks ago and is now part of the park’s sea lion exhibit.
“The exhibit was designed with the hope of one day welcoming a baby sea lion in our effort to maximize genetic diversity within the zoological population,” Kristy Morcom, the park’s director of media relations, said in a press release.
The park is home to 600 species of birds, fish, mammals and reptiles.
The park is located near State Route 303 and Northern Avenue and is home to the largest collection of exotic animals in the state. Adult admission is $39.99 per person.
Morcom said the public can attend educational demonstrations twice a day and can participate in feeding the marine animals. The sea lion shows are held at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day.
