PHOENIX — A neighborhood in downtown Phoenix has been ranked among the most up-and-coming areas in the country, according to Thrillist.

The Warehouse District in Phoenix was ranked as one of the country’s neighborhoods that is about to get “crazy popular.” The neighborhood stretches from 7th Street to 7th Avenue between Jackson and Lincoln streets.

One reason for this? A growing number of tech startups have been fleeing the “crippling prices” of Silicon Valley for the Valley of the Sun.

While startup costs are arguably cheaper in Phoenix versus Silicon Valley, the website also noted the city’s air conditioning and convenient light rail line as two reasons why it may seem more appealing to businesses.

“This may explain why the number of tech companies in Phoenix has grown fourfold since 2012, many of them setting up shop in this former sector of dilapidated warehouses near downtown,” according to the publication.

The growing number of tech startups that now call the Valley home — including WebPT and Galvanize — has also paved the way for the growth of apartment complexes in Phoenix.

Phoenix has joined the likes of the Mills 50 neighborhood in Orlando, southwest Washington, D.C., west Nashville, Tennessee and South Beach in San Francisco, California, as the next up-and-coming neighborhoods.
