PHOENIX — One Phoenix-area city was recently ranked as the best city in the country to purchase a family home, the personal finance technology company SmartAsset found.

Chandler, Arizona, was ranked as the best city in the nation to buy a home that is big enough for a family.

This Arizona city took the No. 1 spot in part because the median home value in the area increased by 45 percent between 2011 and 2015.

The housing stock in Chandler is also “favorable” for people who are hunting for a family home, the company found. More than 90 percent of homes in the town have at least two bedrooms.

But, overall, most Arizona cities fared well in the study, which found that homes in Arizona have “appreciated faster than homes almost anywhere else.”

Homes in other Phoenix-area cities, including Chandler, Gilbert and Scottsdale, have seen their home values increase by more than 40 percent during that same time period.

The study also found that bigger cities, such as Los Angeles, Chicago and New York, fare worse for families due to the lack of space that most homes and apartment complexes allow.

In September, a WalletHub study found that Scottsdale and Gilbert were ranked among the best cities in the country to raise a family.

Sounds like fake news. Houses are packed in so tight, can walk roof to roof. No yard space. All have HOA. Cant park a camper or boat at your house. You can get your house foreclosured for not bringing you trash can in from the curb. Market values fluctuate wildly compared to the rest of the nation. This is one of the worst places to buy a house. Stupid article.

Markets go up and down constantly there is no such thing as "cruising". Investing is a gamble. Also you are right Phoenix is booming but not with homes but with condos and luxury apartments. Thus rising the cost to live in Phoenix metro or uptown. Once the market catches up no one will be able to afford to live in the Phoenix area. Thus the 'rent' comment. I dont doubt it but Dave has different take on handling properties. I take pride in owning a home. I like being the handyman fixing issues and improving them for a long term investment and all of this as long as the markets stay the same which I doubt. But I will still have my home. Renters actually cause property values to drop. Our HOA put a ban on it if you bought your home after 2012. Unfortunately the hoarder two houses down is a fire hazard and the landlord doesn't want to do anything about it and the HOA cant do anything except complain to the city. And as you know that can take a while. So renter or owner it doesn't matter. Some just dont want the responsibilities of owning a home. Both come with its own cons and pros.
