Man on foot hit by train in Phoenix, in hospital in serious condition

PHOENIX — A man crossing railroad tracks near the State Capitol on Monday morning was hit by a train and hospitalized in serious condition, police said.

The accident at Van Buren Street and 19th Avenue shut down the intersection around 8:30 a.m. The immediate area remained closed for almost two hours.

Police said the investigation was ongoing.

The name of the injured man has not been released.

The train engineer swerved to avoid a dog sitting on the tracks, and, in the process, good old Casey Jones tragically ran over this poor guy's foot....
