Comedian Ralphie May dead after suffering cardiac arrest at 45

PHOENIX — Stand-up comedian Ralphie May died of cardiac arrest on Friday. He was 45.

TMZ was the first to report May had passed away. The publication said May had been battling pneumonia for the past six weeks but had been performing his regularly scheduled gigs.

In a statement posted to the comedian’s Twitter account, May’s manager said “We are heartbroken to announce the untimely death of our friend, Ralphie May.”

“Ralphie had been battling pneumonia and had cancelled a handful of dates over the last month in an effort to recover. Earlier this morning at a private residence in Las Vegas his body was discovered, cause of death is cardiac arrest,” part of the statement read.

According to TMZ, May died at his private residence in Las Vegas. Someone in the residence reportedly discovered his body.

The reports of May’s death were also confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, The Daily Beast and Variety.

May won “Last Comic Standing” in 2003 and has essentially been touring ever since. He was a regular act at Stand Up Live! in downtown Phoenix.

He had a long list of tour dates ahead.

May also had several comedy specials on both Netflix and Comedy Central.

He married fellow comedienne Lahna Turner in 2005. She filed for divorce two years ago.

The couple had two children.

He was born in Tennessee but raised in Arkansas.
