The Polytechnic campus near Williams Field and Power roads in Mesa followed that with a 12 percent increase and downtown Phoenix had a 3 percent increase.
ASU said about 60 percent of incoming students were registered for online classes, which was another record.
The school said about 7,500 of the freshmen class were in-state students. On average, those students pay about $1,800 in tuition.
Classes were scheduled to begin Thursday.
