PHOENIX — If you’re looking for something to do Friday night, we have some fly news for you: Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath will play a free concert in downtown Phoenix.

The concert is part of the Arizona Diamondback’s ’90s Night, when the team will celebrate everything about the decade.

McGrath was scheduled to take the stage 20 minutes after the final out of the D-backs’ game against the World Series champion Chicago Cubs. First pitch was scheduled for 6:40 p.m., which means the game should end about 10 p.m.

Like we said, the concert is free, but officials expected it to fill up in a hurry. The concert will be held on Fourth Street, which runs adjacent to Chase Field.

The concert will be put on by the team and Crystal Pepsi, which will make a brief return to stores for the first time in 23 years on Aug. 14.

Sugar Ray became a household name in the late 1990s after its hit, “Fly,” topped the Billboard Airplay List. The song’s album, “Floored,” went double platinum.

The band followed that with a second album, “14:59,” that went triple platinum. On it were songs “Every Morning” and “Someday” that hit No. 3 and No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

McGrath had a short solo career before he switched the microphone for the silver screen. He was a host on “Extra” for several years before moving back to music.

We want to hear from you.
