Arizona highway up Mount Graham to stay closed for safety reasons

PHOENIX — A highway in southeastern Arizona that winds up Mount Graham will be closed for the foreseeable future, a state agency said.
Access to State Route 366, also called Swift Trail Parkway, near Safford, was cut off Monday. The Arizona Department of Transportation said flash flooding related to the recent Frye wildfire had caused concern about debris flow.
The June blaze ignited by a lightning strike consumed over 48,000 acres.
A flash flood in the Tonto National Forest earlier this month killed several members of a Cave Creek family at a swimming hole.
The site is about 145 miles northwest of Mount Graham.
SR 366 was closed at the Round the Mountain trailhead and picnic area but the Noon Creek picnic area and Angle Orchard were still open.
