PHOENIX — A gunman demanding drugs in a Phoenix pharmacy was shot and killed Tuesday night by a customer, police said.

The attempted armed robbery at a Walgreens near 35th Avenue and Union Hills Drive was still under investigation Wednesday.

Witnesses told police the man, later identified as 30-year-old Stephen Holguin, had one gun, maybe two, and that he jumped the counter, pointed a gun and shouted at the pharmacist for OxyContin.

As many as a dozen customers were in the store shortly before 7 p.m.

“People were obviously scared … some were hiding,” Sgt. John Howard said.

The customer who shot Holguin was cooperating, police said.

There was a chance the man could face criminal charges, but he was released pending further investigation.

The customer asked police to not be identified.

I have a hard time believing you are armed. Didn't you just badmouth the shooter in the road rage incident? You use these boards for your own personal amusement don't you?. The guy here deserved to be shot. You sound like you have no idea how to use one or what one is for. I am glad to know you supposedly have a gun and will be too chicken to use it if someone needs help. Thank God you weren't the guy driving by that DPS officer that was shot and getting assaulted.

As it turns out, he was hidden, but not a threat. He was fatally shot.
They just didn't know it.

"odds are".

But odds are that he would have repeated this crime.
Eventually, odds are that he would have killed somebody.

"There was a chance the man could face criminal charges."....so, does that mean he won't? Was is passed tense....

Hopefully, if the dead guy is non-white, the shooter is also non-white....
