Ducey declares emergency after Arizona highway damaged by flood

PHOENIX — Gov. Doug Ducey declared a state of emergency Friday after 13 miles of an Arizona highway were damaged by flooding.
The declaration sought money from the Federal Highway Administration to make more than $800,000 in estimated repairs to State Route 88.
“We want to get this highway fixed as soon as possible,” Ducey said in a press release. “This emergency declaration enables federal assistance and makes this project a priority.”
SR 88 runs between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Lake. The road was damaged by structural erosion between mileposts 201 and 214.
The Arizona Department of Transportation made temporary repairs to the roadway to keep it open.
The area saw heavy rains earlier this week that caused flooding throughout the Phoenix suburb.
