McCain: We must not repeat ‘mistakes that led to Obamacare’s failure’

PHOENIX — Following two GOP senators’ announcements that they’re opposed to the current health care bill, U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) issued a statement.

McCain has been away from his post in recent days to recover from a surgery to remove a blood clot above his eye, but the Senator and his office issued the statement almost immediately after Sens. Mike Lee of Utah and Jerry Moran of Kansas announced their opposition to legislation strongly backed by President Donald Trump, a bill that would repeal and replace Obamacare.

Following the announcement, President Trump said in a tweet Monday that Republicans should just repeal Obamacare and work on replacing it later.

McCain had already stated his opposition to that idea earlier this month. He emphasized that again on Monday.

“One of the major problems with Obamacare was that it was written on a strict party-line basis and driven through Congress without a single Republican vote,” McCain’s statement read. “As this law continues to crumble in Arizona and states across the country, we must not repeat the original mistakes that led to Obamacare’s failure.”

The GOP-controlled Senate has struggled to advance portions of an agenda spearheaded by President Trump, enough to prompt Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to cancel the first two weeks of August recess.

“The Congress must now return to regular order, hold hearings, receive input from members of both parties, and heed the recommendations of our nation’s governors so that we can produce a bill that finally provides Americans with access to quality and affordable health care,” McCain’s statement read.

Mask Up America!

The annoying thing about the ACA and trumpcare is that it seems hardly anyone in Congress truly understands how the concept of healthcare works.
Healthcare is like any other insurance.
Its a matter of risk, determining how much to charge everyone so that expenses can be covered.
Not all pay the same as it is fair to charge to users more than the non-users because they do drive costs.
When the pols start to regulate and tell companies "if you want to work here, you will be required to follow certain rules whether or not they make sense to you!"
So, insurance companies leave the areas where they can't make money...nothing wrong with that.
ACA is not perfect...no one will argue that.
But for now it DOES provide coverage for those who otherwise wouldn't have.
There are arguments that trumpcare might take some of that available coverage away.
Why is that good...other than the phony republican-lemming line of being fiscally conservative!
With the lavish life style, salaries, perks, etc. one could reasonably argue that Congress are all RINO's...me first, let's see what scraps I can toss America's way!
AMEN!
