PHOENIX — The time of year when the monsoon hits, clouds roll in and dust begins to blow seems to be upon us; Saturday brought storm-like conditions to the Phoenix area.

The National Weather Service reported that the southeast Valley was seeing blowing dust and visibility less than one mile.

The storms come after Friday afternoon had already brought extreme temperatures, with the July 7 daily record being broken by a wide margin. Then wind, dust and even some rain drops were seen in the Phoenix area on Friday evening, and the monsoon conditions returned on Saturday.

As of 5 p.m., the National Weather Service was reporting a 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms for Saturday afternoon and a high of 112.

There was also a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms for the evening.
