PHOENIX — Over 100 people will become naturalized American citizens Tuesday at the Mesa Convention Center.
The event, part of a Fourth of July celebration, sponsored for a third straight year by Phoenix-based recycling and trash collector Republic Services, was part of the Arizona Celebration of Freedom.
The swearing-in of 150 of new citizens was scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
“I’m always excited to kick off the fireworks show and participate in the naturalization ceremony where we welcome new citizens to the United States,” Mesa Mayor John Giles said to MyNewsMesa.com.
“I can’t think of a better day to become an American.”
There are 100 questions on the civics test for naturalization. Of those, a United States Citizenship and Immigration Services officer will ask the test taker 10 and he or she have to get six correct to pass.
There is also an English test.
Another holiday naturalization ceremony was scheduled in the morning at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix.

Memo to the media and to
Liberals.....THESE fine folks are IMMIGRANTS. They did it legally and
respected the process and obey our laws. They are welcomed by all of us
with open arms and they truly make America GREAT.
This needs to be mentioned because for the past year, the media and many mainstream liberal politicians (like Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton) uses the term "Immigrants" to describe ILLEGAL ALIENS.
It is a slap in the face to these folks that came here legally and who
paid their dues that you cannot make a distinction between them and
Criminals.
Congratulations and welcome fellow citizens.
If you are speaking about Mexicans, and for that fact, most of Central and South America, they already have conservative values. You can thank Catholicism for that.
