Were you watching Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on Tuesday and craving some hot dogs afterward?
If so, the folks at First We Feast have you covered. The blog named the best hot dog spot in each state and the choice for Arizona was found in Tucson.
El Guero Canelo beat out some of the other notorious Tucson hot dog trucks for its Sonoran dogs.
Address and phone: 5201 S 12th Ave, Tucson (520-807-9620)
Website: elguerocanelo.comTucson is dotted with hot dogs trucks, but it was Daniel Contreras who made the Sonoran-style famous and widely emulated. The classic creation is a bacon-wrapped sausage set into a freshly made bolillo, topped with beans, onion, tomato, mayonnaise, mustard, and jalapeño sauce. The grilled guero chile and knob onions served at all Sonoran hot dog places are fabulous too. Try the original location on 12th Avenue.—BK
Contreras’ first hot dog stand opened in Tucson in 1993. He owns three El Guero Canelo restaurants, which are open seven days a week and open until at least 10 p.m.
The menu includes burritos and tacos.
