PHOENIX — Arizonans across the state will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo with tacos, tamales and/or tequila on Friday, and Triple-A is offering its famed “Tipsy Tow” service to help them get home safely.

The “Tipsy Tow” service allows anyone — not just Triple-A members — to request a free tow up to 10 miles. The service will be offered from 6 p.m. on Friday to 6 a.m. on Saturday.

Arizonans looking to access the service can simply call 1-800-AAA-HELP and ask for a “Tipsy Tow.” The caller will also have to provide the driver’s name, address, phone number and vehicle location.

Michelle Donati with Triple-A said drivers should have a plan to get home safely before they start celebrating, but the “Tipsy Tow” service is available if their plans fall through.

“Make sure you have a designated driver or a plan in advance if you’re taking alternative transportation,” Donati said. “But if those plans fall though, don’t get behind the wheel. Call Tipsy Tow and we’ll get you home safely.”

The service is free up to 10 miles, but drivers will be charged a standard rate if they exceed that mileage.

However, the service is not like the ridesharing apps Uber or Lyft and will not take drivers to another bar or party, just to their home or a hotel.

But Phoenix-area residents who use Lyft can get $50 in free credits by using the promo code “CINCOPHX” for new users and “CINCOPHX17” for existing users, thanks to a partnership with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

We want to hear from you.
