Dinosaurs will be roaring their way into Phoenix Zoo this fall

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Zoo already boasts a wide variety of living animals, but it will soon add more than 20 of the extinct kind, it was announced Wednesday.

The display, called Dinosaurs in the Desert, will feature 23 animatronic prehistoric creatures that will be in place along the zoo’s Desert Lives Trail by fall of this year.

One of the dinosaurs, a 6-foot tall citipati, is already in place near the otter and flamingo exhibits. You can check it out in the video above.

The prehistoric display is scheduled to open to the general public Oct. 6. A special sneak peek will be held for Phoenix Zoo members beginning Oct. 3.

To celebrate the new display, the zoo is hosting a coloring contest. Children ages 3-12 can color a stegosaurus template and send it back to the zoo. Two winning designs will be custom-painted on dinosaurs in the exhibit.

Entries for the contest must be received by July 22.
