PHOENIX — The Phoenix area hit 90 degrees for the first time of 2017 on Monday, the National Weather Service said. The news was announced in a tweet.

The temperature matched the March 13 record of 92 degrees, set back in 1972.

Meteorologists said the average date for the first 90-degree high in metropolitan Phoenix is March 31.

“We’re ahead of schedule, but especially this last five to 10 years, looking back, this is pretty common,” Chris Kuhlman with the weather service said.

It appears things will not be cooling off anytime soon. The weather service’s forecast for Phoenix said highs should remain around 90 degrees all week and could hit as high as 95 degrees this weekend.

Overnight lows are expected to be slightly less than 70 degrees.

However, the mercury should slide back into the high 80s next week.

Last year, the Valley set a record for the earliest 90-degree day in history on Feb. 17.
