A Mexican girl’s party that went viral earlier this month when her father posted a Facebook video inviting friends and family took a dark turn, when a man died after interfering with an amateur horse race during the party.
Fox News reported that 66-year-old Félix Peña died on the way to the hospital after stepping into the path of an amateur horse race at the quinceañera of 15-year-old Rubí Ibarra on Monday. Another man suffered a broken leg from the incident.
A party invite for Rubí’s quinceañera unexpectedly ended up with more than 1 million people on the guest list, according to Fusion, when her father invited friends and family via a Facebook video.
It is the traditional party for girls turning 15 and the invite was only meant for close friends. However, the internet got a hold of the video and it was shared thousands of times, leading to more than 1 million people promising to show up.
In the video, the dad announces his daughter’s “quince” will be on Dec. 26 and even lists the names of the bands playing during the big event. Both Rubi and her mother appear in the video, but neither have a word to say.
After the event became a viral sensation, the internet took the video and produced meme after meme about the huge bash.

The dad reportedly tried to get people to take down the video post, but it was too late.
There was even a Facebook event created calling for a march to convince Rubi’s dad to invite everyone once again to his daughter’s party. More than 84,000 said they were going and another 77,000 people said they were interested, as of Tuesday afternoon.
Even the Mexican airline Interjet got in the fun. It offered 30 percent off on a flight to San Luis Potosi to attend Rubi’s quinceañera.
