Thanksgiving holiday DUI arrests up slightly from 2015

PHOENIX — Slightly more people were arrested for suspicion of DUI over Thanksgiving weekend this year when compared to last year.

The Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety said 333 people were arrested between Nov. 23 and Nov. 26 this year.

That’s a bit more than the 317 arrested last year.

Arrests and citations were up in nearly every category this year. The task force reported more misdemeanor DUI arrests, extreme DUI arrests and DUI arrests with a prior.

It also reported more drug-related DUIs.

There was also a spike in citations. Nearly 600 more drivers received a speeding citation, 150 more received a citation for not wearing a seat belt and 40 more received a citation for an improperly restrained child than last year.

However, law enforcement that participated in a statewide task force made 3,000 more stops this year compared to last year, and 700 more officers were involved.
