PHOENIX — Six million veterans will soon be able to use an app on their phones, tablets or computers to schedule appointments with their primary care doctors.

That’s because the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs plans to debut online medical appointment scheduling starting in January.

The move comes after the 2014 scandal at the VA Medical Center in Phoenix, when whistleblowers revealed that VA schedulers were under pressure to fake records to make it look like appointment wait times were shorter.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the app will take the schedulers out of the picture, and will let veterans choose appointment times right from their own electronic device.
