PHOENIX — The ASU Gammage Auditorium theater season has begun, and along with the productions, there are a few changes in and around the building.

The Apache parking garage, east of the Gammage building, is no longer complimentary when the shows are running during show weeks. Free parking is still available, however, adjacent to Gammage and a couple of blocks away, in lot 20 at University Drive and Mill Avenue.

ASU Gammage public relations manager Kari Amarosso said any kind of free parking these days is a bonus.

“It’s one of very few, if only, venues that provides free parking for its patrons. So, come early, and get your spot,” Amarosso said.

Amarosso noted another bonus is that the theater is adding two elevators and it is improving accessibility. They’re also adding 70 new restroom stalls for the ladies.

“We like to say… the longest lines at ASU Gammage should be reserved for the actors,” Amarosso said, tongue-in-cheek.

The improvements are part of “Elevate & Alleviate,” a $16.2 million capital campaign to sustain the landmark performing arts center for future generations.

The construction projects are expected to be complete next spring.
