PHOENIX — An American Airlines jetliner landed safely Friday morning where it was supposed to — Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport — despite a blown tire that happened during takeoff.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer said the pilot of the Boeing 737-800 declared an emergency en route to Sky Harbor.
There were 157 aboard, including crew, and no one was injured.
A Phoenix Fire Department spokesman said fire trucks followed the plane as the pilot carefully directed the rolling jet off a runway.
Fire Capt. Rob McDade said crews inspected the plane’s landing gear and confirmed the blown tire. They found nothing else wrong.
The plane was towed to a gate where passengers were let off.
The flight had arrived from Portland, Oregon.
The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate.
