PHOENIX — Former Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has a message for one of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s most vocal opponents, U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.):

If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

“If he doesn’t want to come and [support Trump], I think he should be quiet,” Brewer said of Flake on Tuesday while speaking with KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Mac & Gaydos.

Flake and Trump have been butting heads for months. The Washington Post reported the pair first squared off during a meeting designed to foster unity among the GOP ahead of the Republican National Convention in July.

Flake has repeatedly said that Trump’s rhetoric could cause Arizona to vote for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton instead, while the New York billionaire has branded the senator as “weak.”

“It’s nonsense,” Brewer said of Flake’s feud with Trump. “It’s absolutely nonsense.”

Brewer said that, despite any differences they may have, it’s only natural that longtime Republicans such as Flake would gravitate toward supporting the party’s presidential nominee.

“A lot of us have been in the party a long time. We’ve been through a lot of battles,” she said. “We’ve disagreed on a lot of things but when push comes to shove we like our Republican platform a heck of a lot better than the Democrat platform.”

Brewer added that Republicans who are backing Trump would happily welcome Flake, should he decide to support the nominee.
